No. 5 Argonauts Look to Repeat

first_img April 19, 2007ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – After winning their first Gulf South Conference title since 2002 last season, West Florida will look to repeat as champions. The 2007 Bird and Bear Medical, Inc./GSC Women’s Tennis Tournament will take place this Saturday and Sunday on the campuses of Henderson State and Ouachita Baptist Universities.West Florida is the second seed from the GSC East and will face the GSC West third seed Henderson State in the quarterfinals on Saturday at 11 a.m. If West Florida wins, they will advance to the semifinals later in the day against the winner of the Delta State/Alabama-Huntsville match. The championship finals are set for 12 p.m. on Sunday.The tournament will feature four nationally ranked teams in Division II. Along with fifth-ranked West Florida, the other ranked teams include: fourth-ranked Valdosta State, No. 24 Delta State and No. 31 North Alabama. West Florida and Valdosta State combined have eight of the top 50 singles players in nation. Fifth-ranked Suzana Cavalcante (Sao Paulo, Brazil) headlines West Florida’s ranked singles players.West Florida’s eight GSC titles are the most in conference history.
