first_img… Sponsorship with ECB and EBSC renewedBy Rajiv Bisnauth desirable wholesomeWITH the aim of highlighting the rich talent in the Ancient County of Berbice and the promotion of sports as a healthy avenue for the youths, the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTY&SC) and the Guyana Beverage Company yesterday launched the 15th edition of the Busta ‘Champions of Champions’ tournament, which will be contested by the top eight teams.The launching ceremony was held at the company’s head office at Diamond, East Bank Demerara.The tournament, which has been organised by the RHTY&SC since 2009, is one of the most popular cricket tournaments in Berbice.At the launch, RHTY&SC CEO/Secretary Hilbert Foster commended the beverage company for continuing its dedication to sport.Foster expressed gratitude to Robert Selman, who returned to the helm of the company here, for his support, and also pledged that the tournament would be well-organised, while fulfilling all its objectives, as the Club aims to spread and promote its ‘No to Suicide, Drugs, Crime, Alcohol and Yes to Sports, Education and Religion’ message to youths.Foster pointed out that the Club’s success over the last two decades has been due to the outstanding relationship the club has enjoyed with several companies, inclusive of the Guyana Beverage Company Limited.General Manager of the Guyana Beverage Company, Robert Selman, hands over the sponsorship to the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTY&SC) representative, first-class cricketer Clinton Pestano. Also sharing the moment are former Guyana youth player Shawn Pereira (second right) and RHTY&SC Mark Papannah.According to Foster, the tournament will commence sometime in August, with the winning team receiving $100 000. The losing finalists will collect half of that amount, while outstanding individual performers would also receive prizes.The final is expected to be aired live on NCN Radio, with a proposed television package in the pipeline.The format of the eight-team tournament is yet to be decided.Meanwhile, the company also renewed its sponsorship with the Essequibo Cricket Board (ECB), and the Enterprise Busta Sport Club (EBSC).Selman, who is the General Manager of the Guyana Beverage Company, said the sponsorships are part of giving back to the people of Guyana.He noted that Busta brand has been well promoted over the years due to the tournaments, of which the company is proud.Selman expressed confidence that the various tournaments this year would be the same, while he encouraged the teams to play the game in a friendly environment and expressed the hope that new talents would emerge.Caribbean Brand Manager of SM Jaleel and Company, the parent body of the Guyana Beverage Company, Andre Noel, said the company believes in the holistic development of sport.He viewed the sponsorships as an important developmental tool, not only for youths but also for the various communities.Also making brief remarks were president of the ECB, Fizul Bacchus, and secretary of the EBSC, Chanderpaul Tickaram, who both expressed gratitude to Selman and the company. They both promised to maintain, and encourage support of the Busta line of products.last_img
