Structure fire Thursday on 507 South G in Wellington results in $30,000 damage

first_imgby Tracy McCue, Sumner Newscow — A structure fire on 507 South G in Wellington resulted in $30,000 damage Thursday evening.On Dec. 20, at 10:38 p.m., occupant Alison Kelly and owner Eric Archambeau reported hearing a smoke detector alarm then saw fire coming from the closet containing the furnace, according to a Wellington Fire Department report.  Firefighters found flames coming from windows and the front door upon arrival. The WFD had the fire under control at 11:03 p.m. There was extensive damage throughout the structure. There were no injuries.There were 16 fire personnel on the scene with six apparatus. Mayfield Fire Department assisted on the call.WFD Chief Timothy Hay said the cause of the fire may have been a malfunction of the furnace or combustibles too close to the furnace fire.
