‘Anthony Martial is an ice cold assassin’ – Celebrity fan view

first_img Hurts Each week, a leading band or musician takes talkSPORT’s Starting XI Q&A. Here are the views of Adam Anderson from Hurts…Who would be the most rock ’n’ roll signing your club could make? Zlatan. If I’m watching a band, I want to feel an element of danger and unease. With Ibrahimovic, literally anything can and will happen, so he’d be perfect. He also has an excellent head of hair, a plus point for any maverick, rock ‘n’ roll or otherwise. If your club was a song or a lyric, what would it be? Not Nineteen Forever by the Courteeners. It felt very apt when we made it 20. Plus, it’s a great tune and the singer is a mate.Which football stadium would you most like to play a gig at (that’s not your club’s home ground?) In England it would be Edgeley Park, home of Stockport County. We’d sell it out and my dad would have something to tell his mates about. In Europe we’ve played in numerous football stadiums. However, the Nou Camp would be tidy if I’m being choosy. Or St Pauli if things get gritty. Could probably sell that one out. Nou Camp-less likely to sell out. Just to clarify.Which footballer has the most potential to be a rock star? Anthony Martial. He’s an ice cold assassin. Girls would want to be with him, lads would want to be like him. He’d sleep in an oxygen tank to preserve his cool and he’d sing exclusively in falsetto. Brit award or Premier League trophy? Brit Award. Never won one. Got 20 leagues. Let the others have a go.When you were a kid, which football and music posters did you have on your all? Eric Cantona and Radiohead. The perfect marriage. Elvis was the king of rock ’n’ roll, Michael Jackson the king of pop… Who’s the king of Football? Wayne Rooney. He represents the hopes and dreams of the everyman. On his bad days where his touch is off and he looks Sunday League, we all feel we could do better than him. That vulnerability makes him identifiable. He battles with his weight, probably likes a can at half-time and went bald at 23. He’s one of us. At the same time there are moments where his skill has been otherworldly. On a good day he’s the player we all are in our dreams. If you were in charge of you club’s dressing room stereo, what tune would you put on before a big game and why? Joy Division’s ‘Atmosphere’. It’s devastatingly morbid and would send the lads out with no fear of consequence, due to being in complete and utter despair. They would therefore be liberated in a pressure cooker occupation. It’s basic reverse psychology. Which signing got you most excited and which player’s departure broke your heart? Me and my mate were gutted Dimitar Berbatov left, even though he was never a Man United player. There’s relaxed and there’s TOO relaxed and his talent was sadly housed in the latter category. I do admire players who play at their own pace, in their own little world. Everyone loves an enigma. He was also balding at 25 but hid it beautifully. I admire him for that. Most excited I’ve been – when we signed Karel Poborsky, drenched in Euro 96 hype. He was going to change everything but he changed nothing. I was so determined that he was, in fact decent, that I followed his post United career religiously, just longing for him to come good. At 33 years old, with his hair still thick and full, he came good whilst at Sparta Prague and retired a hero. Youtube it…Which footballer would you refuse complimentary tickets to one of your gigs?Any teenage player earning more than £50k a week. There’s so much money given to unproven players in this age. As a punishment they’ll be denied tickets to watch a male duo sing songs of hope and sorrow. They’ll be gutted. Oh, and El Hadji Diouf ain’t getting near a ticket. Nobody likes a spitter. What’s the best/worst football song ever recorded? My friend (author Joe Stretch) wrote one for the 2010 World Cup. It’s the greatest football song never released. It’s called ‘God Save Colleen’. It features the lyric ‘I drink limoncello with Fabio Capello, it’s cold and it is yellow’ and ‘I’m Joe Cole, I’m Ashley Cole, we’re both called Cole’.  Genius.Hurts release new album ‘Surrender’ on October 9th via Columbia Records 1last_img
