Former All-American, College Football Hall Of Famer Has Passed Away

Hall of Fame quarterback Bob Schloredt, formerly one of the best multi-dimensional players in college football, has passed away.Per ESPN, the University of Washington released a statement that Schloredt passed away on Thursday night. He was 79 years old and reportedly battling illness for a long time.As a player, Schloredt was an option quarterback who led Washington to its first-ever bowl win in the 1960 Rose Bowl. He shared MVP honors with George Fleming after a 44-8 win over Wisconsin.Schloredt made history with the Huskies the following year, becoming the first player to win Rose Bowl MVP honors twice after leading the team to a 17-7 Rose Bowl victory over the Minnesota Golden Gophers. The feat would only be replicated three times, by Charles White, Ron Dayne and Vince Young. He would be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1989, and into the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame in 1991.Bob Schloredt, one of @UW greatest football players ever, died. Schloredt quarterbacked the Dawgs to two straight Rose Bowl championships after the 1959 and ’60 seasons. Always a leader and a gentleman, Bob Schloredt died after a long illness. He was drafted by the CFL’s BC Lions and the AFL’s Dallas Texans, opting to sign with the former.He played two years of professional football before returning to Washington as an assistant coach, where he worked from 1963 to 1973.Our thoughts and prayers are with Mr. Schloredt’s family and loved ones.last_img
